Abstract Mechanisticapproachestoplanktonfood-websoftenrelyonsize-basedmodels.Thesemodelsdescribe predator–preyrelationshipsbasedonpredator body or cell size. However, size-based representations of trophic relationships fail to encompass the diverse feeding behavior dinoflagellates, which play an essential role in food-web due their abundance and ubiquity. Here, we introduce specialization factor ( s ) as effective trait, aggregates over aspects morphology, strategy, quantifies degree towards a specific prey We found that either upper lower edge size spectrum is connected independent relations. As result, dinoflagellates can be divided into three groups with distinct dependencies optimal on predator size: (1) mixotrophic engulfers specialized small $$s=-1$$ s = - 1 ), (2) pallium feeders large $$s=1$$ (3) neutral $$s=0$$ 0 encompassing generalist tube feeders. Our trait based approach elucidates evolutionary significance modes compared phylogenetically older such ciliates. It furthermore leads more accurate representation models provide, generally, efficient description complex relations plankton food-webs.

Prey-dependent retention of dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) by mixotrophic dinoflagellates
We investigated the retention of dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) in phototrophic dinoflagellates arising from mixotrophy by estimating the cellular content of DMSP in Karlodinium veneficum (mixotrophic growth) fed for 7-10 days on either DMSP-rich Amphidinium carterae (phototrophic growth only) or DMSP-poor Teleaulax sp. (phototrophic growth only). In K. veneficum fed on DMSP-poor prey, the c...
متن کاملlanguage learning strategies and vocabulary size of iranian efl learners
learning a second or foreign language requires the manipulation of four main skills, namely, listening, reading, speaking, and writing which lead to effective communication. it is obvious that vocabulary is an indispensible part of any communication, so without a vocabulary, no meaningful communication can take place and meaningful communication relies heavily on vocabulary. one fundamental fac...
Coexistence of structured populations with size-based prey selection.
Species with a large adult-offspring size ratio and a preferred predator-prey mass ratio undergo ontogenetic trophic niche shift(s) throughout life. Trophic interactions between such species vary throughout life, resulting in different species-level interaction motifs depending on the maximum adult sizes and population size distributions. We explore the assembly and potential for coexistence of...

Mud volcanoes are taken into consideration by geologists and oil industry experts have given their association with oil and gas reserves and methane greenhouse gas production in hydrosphere and atmosphere. Gomishan mud volcano phenomenon in the southeastern edge of the Caspian Sea, given its oil and gas resources, has been studied by some geologists in terms of geology and tectonics but not in ...
متن کاملIntroduction of Three Independent Selection Markers in Leishmania
The pLE2SCX vector was developed for the stable expression of exogenous genes in the protozoan parasite Leishmania. The pLE2SCX construct contains three independent selection markers: herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-TK), cytosine deaminase (CD) and streptothericin acetyltransferase gene (sat) in multiple cloning site, flanking by 5’ and 3’ untranslated regions of the previously clone...
